HELLO AI DATA {DOT} LAW

It’s a pleasure to be publishing the first blog post at AI DATA . LAW

AI is going to be doing some wonderful things (and maybe also some weird things!). As a business, the way you are going to interact with your customers, your partners, your suppliers and your team members is going to change. It’s also going to affect each of us as humans too - at work and at home.

As the person behind AI DATA . LAW I beleive that AI has the power to enable people to do great things. But with great power comes great responsibility (and Spiderman knew a thing or two about that).

There is a lot to navigate and that’s what this site is here to help you do. My goal with this blog is to provide snippets of useful information about the legal aspects of using AI (and the data it uses) for your business and products. But let’s be clear about one very important thing: these are intended to be helpful and general snippets. It’s not legal advice for you. You’ll likely need some of that too. So reach out here for that!

But I’m going to start this blog by recording these five things that I personally believe about AI:

  1. The world is unlikely to lose control of its computers because us humans will be capable of pulling out the plugs - AI fear is not helpful. I believe in helping to dampen AI legal frictions, not stoking them.

  2. The world will need to pay attention to what people build and what people are using AI for because humans make choices in the process of building, training and tuning AI that can impact people in serious and harmful ways. I beleive AI skepticism is healthy (with a dollop of regulatory support to focus minds!).

  3. The world has never had a greater need for AI literacy than it has now - inside and outside educational settings (thank you Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme!). Only if we understand it can we trust it and really use it fully, to generate the benefits predicted.

  4. The world will need and value good AI citizens and good AI organisations because people must know what’s going on and how AI is being used. I believe that governments around the world are alive to this - legislation is coming thick and fast to back this up.

  5. Lawyers (like me!) must take the time to understand the nuts and bolts of AI to help you - I am on your side!

    THANKS FOR READING WONDERFUL HUMANS

    NOW LET’S TALK AI!

Vanessa
